When a new user is registered in Guru, there is no need for them to provide any more details than e-mail address and user name. In case of JomSocial, a new user has to provide more details about themselves (like interests etc.). However, a user registered to Guru becomes automatically JomSocial's user without having to provide additional details. Can we control the transfer of Guru members to JomSocial?

Basically each Joomla! user becomes JomSocial member. So it doesn't matter how it will be created: registration in Guru, in Joomla! directly or in JomSocial. The difference is that Registering using JomSocial allows to fill in all profile fields while Guru registration flow doesn't integrate with that flow.
At the moment, you can't control Guru registration flow or override it with JomSocial one... but we'll think about it in the future.
